Nature’s Gate Natural Toothpaste is an excellent option if you’re first making the switch from national brand name to natural toothpaste. It looks, smells, and taste as close to a national brand toothpaste as there is out there. This toothpaste actually foams up when brushing like a national brand toothpaste, which I think makes the transition to the natural toothpaste world easier. This product does not have Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, which of course I like, but it does include Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate. Yes, both have acronyms of SLS, but they are different. The Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate allows this toothpaste to foam up. Based on studies it was not found to not be expected to be toxic or harmful. However, EWG’s Skin Deep Database does have some small concerns with it.
What I like:
- No Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
- Fluoride Free
- No added sweetners
- Children around 8 years old may like this because the Peppermint taste is not very strong
- Foams up making the transition from national brand name to natural toothpaste easier
- Some have cited it helps with sensitive teeth
What I don’t like:
- Does include Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate
- Taste is faint which doesn’t leave your mouth with a minty feeling
Where to buy Nature’s Gate Natural Toothpaste:
- Creme de Peppermint: Nature’s Gate Natural Toothpaste, Creme de Peppermint, 6-Ounce Tubes (Pack of 6)
- Creme de Anise: Nature’s Gate Natural Toothpaste, Creme de Anise, 6-Ounce Tubes (Pack of 6)
My First Impressions:
The first thing I noticed when looking at Nature’s Gate Natural Toothpaste is that there is an asterisk after the word “Natural” on the tube.
It shows that it’s 97% natural. I actually really respect that they acknowledge that it’s not 100% natural like other companies do.
After noticing the asterisk I’d say the packaging of the toothpaste is pretty good. It’s not flashy or unique or different, but it definitely works. Unscrewing the cap will reveal a tinfoil cover to ensure toothpaste doesn’t come squirting out when transporting it.
On to the brushing experience…this is definitely the easiest natural toothpaste to transition to! It looks, smells, and tastes as close to a national brand toothpaste as there is. You don’t have to use too much toothpaste because it will foam up quite a bit. It doesn’t have as strong as a mint taste as national brand toothpastes, but it’s definitely there. The actual toothpaste looks just like a national brand without some of the colorful stripes and crystals you normally see. When I started brushing my teeth with this natural toothpaste, I honestly forgot that it was natural. It seems so much like a national brand toothpaste, but just with a little but less minty taste to it.
My Long Term Update:
After using this toothpaste for a few weeks everything is still going very well. I’ve learned to not use quite as much toothpaste on my toothbrush since it foams up quite a bit. I’ve also noticed that despite having it foam up, I don’t get dry lips and need to apply ChapStick afterwards like a toothpaste that has Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
My Final Thoughts:
If you’re looking to make the switch to natural toothpaste and you’re concerned about the taste or sensation of brushing, Nature’s Gate is definitely the way to go hands down.
